Tom Tirabosco «Trente oiseaux morts» The Book accompanying the exhibition

Publications

The Swiss comic book artist and illustrator Tom Tirabosco (* 1966, Rome) draws a memento to thirty dead sparrows, finches, titmice, swallows, owls and other birds in this small booklet, being published on the occasion of his first retrospective at the Cartoonmuseum Basel. These birds died as single animals and at the same time are threatened as species. Their food is becoming scarcer and their living space is diminishing. Bird species familiar to us as everyday companions are becoming rare and their absence indicates that nature is losing balance.
The realistic and sculptural representation of lifeless bodies with soft contours and subtle shades of gray is achieved with a special, monotype-related technique that Tirabosco has perfected and that he uses for most of his works.
